What is Healthy Beginnings Waupaca County?
Healthy Beginnings is a free, voluntary home visitation program that offers information and support to expectant parents and parents of infants and young children.
What can Healthy Beginnings do for families?
The goal of Healthy Beginnings Waupaca County is to help children grow to reach their full potential. Trained home visitors will provide parents with information and support to help strengthen their families and meet the needs of their children.
What about privacy?
All information about families will be kept private.
How does the Healthy Beginnings program work?
There are four ways Healthy Beginnings can help:
Personal visits: During visits, home visitors share information on child development, complete screenings, and support the family in working toward goals. Usually, visits are conducted in the home, making it convenient and safe for families with young children. Visits last about an hour and are made to fit the schedule of each family.
Group connections: Parents and children in the program are invited to monthly group events to meet other parents, hear experts speak on parenting topics and child development, and/or share interesting activities with their children.
Screenings: Screening provides an opportunity to determine where a child's progress fits in with standardized measures of child development. Health, hearing, vision, and developmental screenings are provided. If delays are identified that may affect future learning, referrals will be made for additional resources and support.
Community Resources: Home visitors will help families to identify additional resources in the community. Home visitors can connect parents with these resources in order to help meet family needs and goals.
