Zoning Districts are often confused with the Assessment. Your property tax bill will have categories such as agriculture or residential. That refers only to how the use it taxed and not your actual zoning district. Please refer to this map to see what your property is zoned.
Your proposed project must be allowed either as a permitted use (P) or conditional use (C) in your zone in order for you to get the appropriate permit for your project. Check the Setbacks and Allowable Uses Tables to see what is required for your proposed project. If your proposed project isn't allowed within your current zoning district, you will need to contact our office see if you can rezone your property.
This is a lengthy process. In some cases, your Town must send out notices and hold a public hearing to change their comprehensive plan. If that is approved, it comes to the Planning & Zoning Office for a public hearing to amend the County’s Plan and Zoning maps. THEN it needs to be approved by the full County Board. This whole process can take several months.
